Engineering design and infrastructure construction for Penny's Bay development

*********************************************************

The Director of Civil Engineering has awarded a consultancy for the development of Hong Kong Disneyland (HKD), "Infrastructure for Penny's Bay Development - Engineering Design and Construction", to Maunsell Consultants Asia Limited.

The consultancy will commence tomorrow (April 29) and continue for about six years.

Under this consultancy, the first construction contract will commence by the end of 2001 to facilitate the opening of the Disneyland Phase One. The cost of this consultancy is about HK$63 million.

The major scope of the consultancy comprises the engineering design and the supervision of the construction of the associated infrastructure in connection with the development of the Disneyland Phase One on Lantau Island and the Penny's Bay section of the Chok Ko Wan Link Road.

The associated infrastructure for the Hong Kong Disneyland includes road works, a ferry pier, a public water recreation centre for water sports, stormwater drainage system and a sewerage network. It also includes fresh and salt water supply systems, landscaping works, decommissioning of the existing Cheoy Lee Shipyard, slope stabilisation measures, and environmental mitigation measures.

The public water recreation centre comprises a lake with a surface area of about 12 hectares and a minimum depth of four metres, a car park, an access road linking Road P2, pedestrian access, and recreational facilities including a recreation trail and a boating centre.

The road works comprise Road P2 and a West Resort Road. The former is a dual two-lane/three-lane carriageway of about 4.5 km in length, connecting the proposed Yam O rail station to the theme park with a roundabout to connect Chok Ko Wan Link Road and a road crossing under the North Lantau Highway.

The West Resort Road is a dual two-lane carriageway of about 1.8 km in length surrounding the Disneyland Phase One including a bridge over the Penny's Bay Rail Link.

The consultants will also carry out the associated Public Transport Provision Study and Signage Study for the Hong Kong Disneyland.
