Auxiliary Police - The Best in Asia

***********************************

The Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force, which has a glorious history for 85 years, is the largest auxiliary force of its kind in the world and has been famed as "the Best in Asia".

The Commandant of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force, Mr Chau Cham-chiu, gave the above remarks at the Force passing out parade at the Auxiliary Headquarters today (March 31).

Speaking to 119 fresh Auxiliary Police constables, Mr Chau said that a series of reforms had been implemented in the past 12 months following a review on the role and duties of the Auxiliary Police.

"As there is sufficient manpower for the regular Police Force to carry out all front-line duties, the structure of the Auxiliary Police has been streamlined.

"The role of the Auxiliary Police officers is to render support to the Police Force in terms of internal security and crowd control," Mr Chau said.

On crime prevention and routine duties in maintaining law and order, Auxiliary Police officers would continue to receive on-the-job training and would be deployed to carry out duties on a limited basis so as to ensure they could provide assistance to their regular counterparts when situation warranted, he added.

Mr Chau also congratulated the graduates, who are coming from different professions, on having passed the stringent selection process and training courses.
