Chief Executive hosts party for the elderly

******************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, was treated to a display of artistic and craft skills by his guests at the party for the elderly he hosted today (March 15) at Government House.

Adopting the theme of "Appreciating the Skills and Talents of the Elderly", many of the over 100 elderly guests were given opportunities to display their artistry and talents on a wide range of activities.

They gave demonstrations on gymnastic exercises, Chinese calligraphy and balloon twisting.

Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Shelley Lau, who joined Mr Tung in walking around the display of artistic and craft skills performed by the elderly, noted : "Many of the elderly are leading meaningful lives in retirement by working as volunteers in helping the handicapped or underprivileged and playing an active part in various community events. For many of them, age has not slowed them down in their determination to play a positive role in society and lead an active life."

Before leaving the party, Mr Tung and Mrs Lau distributed gifts to the guests, who in turn presented a souvenir to the Chief Executive.

Finally, the guests were treated to a buffet at the party organised by the Home Affairs Department.
