The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, met with the visiting US Secretary of Defence, Mr William Cohen, at his office today (March 11).

Mr Tung briefed Mr Cohen on the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong, our experience in overcoming the Asian financial turmoil, the recovery of our economy and the business prospects for Hong Kong flowing from China's accession to the World Trade Organisation.

Mr Tung noted that the recreational and rest visits to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by US naval ships and state aircraft had resumed. These visits made a contribution to the Hong Kong economy, he said.
