The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) today (Monday) submitted to the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, a report on the 1999 District Councils election, which was held on November 28, 1999.

The report gives a detailed account of how the Commission conducted and supervised the election and dealt with complaints on electoral matters. It also covers a review of the electoral arrangements and recommendations made by the Commission.

The EAC is an independent and apolitical body responsible for the conduct and supervision of elections. It is required under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance to make a report to the Chief Executive within three months of the conclusion of an election.
