Following is a statement by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, today (Thursday) on the death of Mr Ji Pengfei :

"I am saddened to hear about the death of Mr Ji Pengfei, a former Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and Director of the Basic Law Drafting Committee. Mr Ji made an invaluable contribution to the drafting of the Basic Law and the smooth reunification of Hong Kong with the motherland. I am sure Mr Ji would take much pride in the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong. On behalf of the HKSAR Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Mr Ji's family."
