New appointment to the Judicial OfficersĄ@Recommendation Commission

The Government announced today (Friday) the appointment of the Honourable Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee as a Member of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission from January 27, 2000 to June 30, 2001.

Mr Justice Pang takes the place of the Honourable Mr Justice Gerald Paul Nazareth in the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission upon the latter's retirement from the Judiciary and resignation from being a member of the Commission.

The function of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission is to advise the Chief Executive regarding the filing of vacancies in judicial offices; representations from a judicial officer concerning conditions of service; and any matter affect judicial officers which may be prescribed or which the Chief Executive may refer to it.

The Commission is chaired by Mr Andrew Li, Chief Justice and its members are Miss Elsie Leung, Secretary for Justice; Mr Chan Siu-oi, Patrick, Chief Judge of the High Court; Mr Pang Kin-kee, Judge of the High Court; Miss Li Chi-hei, Gladys Veronica; Mr Woo Bun, Roderick; Mr Chan Wing-kee; Professor Chang Hsin-kang and Dr Fung Kwok-king, Victor.

The Hon Mr Justice PANG Kin-kee

Mr Justice PANG Kin-kee was born in China in 1947. He was called to the English Bar in 1978 and admitted as Barrister and Solicitor in Australia in 1983. He had been in private practice between 1979 and 1985. He had been appointed Magistrate of the Hong Kong Judiciary in 1985 and District Judge in 1987. He was appointed Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 1997.
