City of Light and Sound to Greet the New Millennium

***************************************************

More than one thousand five hundreds tenants gathered at the City of Light and Sound Carnival organised by the Housing Authority at the Lok Fu Shopping Centre late last night (Friday) to greet the new millennium.

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, and Mrs Tung, shared the joy by visiting the Carnival, which included a series of celebrations, lucky draws and a lighting and countdown ceremony.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Authority, Dr Rosanna Wong, and the Director of Housing, Mr Tony Miller, Mr Tung and Mrs Tung joined residents at the stall games, toured the Authority's Flower Show at the shopping centre podium and watched some live performances.

They were warmly greeted by residents during their half-an-hour-visit. Mr Tung extended his best wishes to them and handed out balloons to small children.

At the Carnival, the Assistant Director of Housing (Management 1), Mr Andrew Kwok, wished residents happiness and good luck on behalf of the Authority.

Mr Kwok said the rollover is an exciting moment of hopes and aspirations. He said: "In the new millennium, the Authority will maintain its spirit of continuous improvement in upgrading its services and making a better living environment for the public."

The "City of Light and Sound" Carnival was full of festivity. A giant millennium dragon was lit up at the centre of the podium to signify good fortune. One of the highlights of the event was the countdown around mid-night when residents waived their flashes to welcome the new millennium.
