World class diving and synchronised swimming performances

The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council:

The China National Diving Team and the Synchronised Swimming Team, with many world champions including Fu Mingxia, will give demonstration performances on diving and synchronised swimming at the Shing Mun Valley Swimming Complex between 7 pm and 9 pm on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5.

Free tickets are available at Regional Services Department's District Offices on a first-come-first-served basis from Monday (November 22). For enquiries, please call 22l29702.

The presentation is organised by the Provisional Regional Council and co-organised by the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association and viewers may be able to appreciate the impulsive platform diving and springboard diving from the world class aquatic gymnasts from China.

In addition to Fu, members of the national diving team include Li Chengwei, Xiang Fei, Hu Wenying, Miao Qiang, Fang Min, Wang Liang, Chang Jing, Tao Tang, and Zhang Ziye.

Members of the Synchronised Swimming Team include Zhan Jien, Xie Yiyi, Yang Pei, Wang Na, He Xiaochu, Gu Beibei, Zhu Yuqiong, He Ya, Zhang Xiaolei and Wu Danni.

Brief biographies of some major gymnasts are as follows:

Fu Mingxia, aged 22, is the only woman to win five Olympic gold medals by diving. She is a member of the diving team of Qinghua University and won the world champion in aquatic events for ten times, and champions in 3M Springboard Diving in the 26th Olympic event and 3M Springboard Diving and 10M Platform Diving in the 27th Olympic event.

Li Chengwei, aged 17, is a member of the diving team of the Qinhua University. He won three gold medals in 10M Platform Diving in the 10th World Cup Diving Competition.

Wang Na and He Xiaochu, both aged 15, are member of the Xichuan Synchronised Swimming Team. Both of them won their silver medals in the 1999 World's Youth Synchronised Swimming Competition.
