*******************************************************

The Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, Ms Sandra Lee, today (Friday) concluded a two-day visit to Budapest to promote economic links between Hungary and Hong Kong.

During her visit, Ms Lee met senior officials from the Ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs as well as leading businessmen.

She also delivered a keynote address at a seminar attended by about 200 Hungarian government officials and business executives.

Ms Lee said that since last October, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London had taken up responsibility for bilateral relations with Hungary and a number of Central and Eastern European countries.

She also updated her audience on the new initiatives in Hong Kong set out by the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region Government in his recent policy address.

Ms Lee said that the Chief Executive's vision is to position Hong Kong for the 21st century and to make Hong Kong a world city.

"The SAR is also committed to cultivating talents for a knowledge-based society; improving the environment and consolidating the territory's foundation of prosperity and progress," she said.
