Chief Executive to share Policy Address with wide spectrum of community

************************************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, is looking forward to delivering his 1999 Policy Address next week and sharing the policy proposals of the HKSAR Government with the community, a Government spokesman said today (Thursday).

New arrangements have been put in place this year for the Chief Executive to communicate with a wide spectrum of the community and to listen to their views and response. The new arrangements include the Chief Executive attending a joint phone-in programme by three radio stations, a meeting with Provisional District Board Chairmen and a communication session with young people.

Mr Tung will begin delivering the Policy Address to the Legislative Council at 2.30 pm on October 6 (Wednesday). Immediately after the delivery, he will give a media conference to the local and overseas media.

The Chief Executive will record a short message on his Policy Address for broadcast on all electronic media stations in the evening of October 6. The message will provide the audience with a gist of the Address.

The same evening Mr Tung will have a meeting with Provisional District Board Chairmen to listen to their views and response to the Policy Address.

To exchange views direct with members of the public on the Policy Address, the Chief Executive will attend a joint radio phone-in programme in the morning of October 7 (Thursday). The programme will be broadcast live simultaneously on RTHK, Commercial Radio and Metro.

The spokesman said, "The Chief Executive has been listening to views from all walks of life in preparing the Policy Address. He will take this opportunity to share his views with the audience and, more importantly, to listen to their response."

In the afternoon, Mr Tung will attend a question-and-answer session on the Policy Address in the Legislative Council and take questions from Members.

Mr Tung will deliver a keynote speech in English at a luncheon meeting jointly organised by the chambers of commerce on October 8 (Friday).

That evening, Mr Tung will have a dialogue with several hundred young people to listen to their views about the Policy Address and their concerns and aspirations. The youth forum, organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, will be held from 6 pm to 7.30 pm.

End/Thursday, September 30, 1999
