Following is a statement by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, today (Thursday) on the death of Sir Piers Jacobs:

I am saddened to hear the death of Sir Piers Jacobs, who served the Hong Kong Government and the people of Hong Kong from 1962 until his retirement in 1992. I would like to send my deepest condolences to Lady Josephine and to Sir Piers' family.
