Appointment of Chairman to the Consumer Council

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has appointed Professor Andrew Chan Chi-fai as the Chairman of the Consumer Council for two years from September 16, 1999.

Professor Chan will be succeeding Ms Anna Wu Hung-yuk who has assumed the post of Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission and left the Consumer Council since August 1, 1999.

Professor Chan is the Associate Dean of the School of Business Administration as well as the Director of the Master of Business Administration Programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been serving on the Consumer Council since January 1, 1997.

"We are most grateful to Ms Anna Wu for her distinguished contribution to the Consumer Council over the past decade. We are confident that given Professor Chan's in-depth knowledge of marketing and his administrative experience, he will provide the necessary leadership for the Council in continuing to promote consumer interests in Hong Kong," a Government spokesman said today (Wednesday).

"We will continue to tender all necessary assistance and cooperation to the Council."

The appointment notice will be gazetted on September 17, 1999.
