School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme

To motivate schools and students to participate in various school-based activities enhancing their awareness of environmental hygiene and healthy lifestyles, the Education Department organised "School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" cum "Student Environmental Hygiene Participation and Leader Scheme".

The schemes are also in line with the 'Healthy Living into the 21 Century' Campaign launched by the Government in June 1998. The campaign aims at safeguarding public health and environmental hygiene in order to maintain the international status of Hong Kong as a healthy cosmopolitan city.

Under the theme - the importance of environmental hygiene in our daily lives - participating schools had organised activities related to environmental hygiene.

A total of 43 secondary schools and 81 primary schools participated in the schemes. They had organised various school-based activities to achieve the objectives of the schemes.

Activities of both secondary and primary sections include "School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" and "Student Environmental Hygiene Leader Scheme". There is also "Student Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" organised for junior primary pupils.

Winners of the "School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" will receive honour and merit awards, while those of the "Student Environmental Hygiene Leader Scheme" will receive outstanding and merit awards.

Meanwhile, primary schools can nominate pupils who have actively taken part in the "Student Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" for an appreciation award.

Ten secondary and 10 primary schools will receive honour award in the "School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme", while 16 secondary students and 10 primary pupils will receive outstanding award in the "Student Environmental Hygiene Leader Scheme".

Moreover, there are over 10,000 junior primary school students receiving certificates of appreciation for active participation in the "Student Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme"

"School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" cum "Student Environmental Hygiene Participation and Leader Scheme" prize presentation ceremony will be held at Room G01, Hong Kong Teachers' Centre, 4 Pak Fuk Road, North Point tomorrow¡]Saturday¡^at 10 am.

The Assistant Director of Education (Chief Inspector of Schools), Mr Tam Chun-kit, will officiate at the ceremony.

Winning entries of the "School Environmental Hygiene Participation Scheme" will be displayed at Room 105-107, Hong Kong Teachers' Centre after the ceremony until 12 noon and on May 17¡]Monday¡^to May 20 ¡]Thursday¡^from 9 am to 4.30 pm.
