Housing Authority Appointed New Committee Members

The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

The Housing Authority announced today (Thursday) new membership of its Committees effective 1 April 1999.

The new appointments include:

Hon. Ng Leung-sing as the Chairman of the Commercial Properties Committee and as a Member of the Strategic Planning Committee;

Mr Ng Shui-lai as the Chairman of the Rental Housing Committee and as a Member of the Strategic Planning Committee;

Mr Anthony Wong Luen-kin as the Chairman of the Special Committee on Clearance of Kowloon Walled City;

Mr Ip Kwok-him and Ms Anna Kwong Sum-yee to the Building Committee;

Mrs Pamela Chan Wong Shui, Mr Peter Lee Hoo-tim and Mr Liu Sing-cheong to the Commercial Properties Committee;

Ms Siu Yuen-sheung to the Complaints Committee and the Special Committee on Clearance of Kowloon Walled City;

Mr Lau Kwok-yu to the Complaints Committee;

Mrs Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee to the Finance Committee;

Mr Alex Choy Kan-pui, Mr Albert So Chun-hin, Mrs Kwong Li Kwai-fong and Miss Wong Lai-chun to the Home Ownership Committee;

Mr Michael Choi Ngai-min to the Human Resources Committee; and

Hon. Ho Sai-chu, Mr George Ng Sze-fuk and Ms Ko Po-ling to the Rental Housing Committee.

A spokesman of the Housing Authority said that among the 87 non-official HA and committee members, 14 are also district board members, 5 municipal councillors, 5 Legislative Council members and 2 Executive Councillors.

Members are coming from different walks of life, including professionals, academics as well as public housing tenants and other subsidised housing owners.

"Since the Authority is the largest developer and property manager in Hong Kong, it is important for the Authority to be represented by members closely related to different fields such as building industry, property and finance, who will provide valuable input on matters such as town planning, legal, financial management, building design and maintenance," the spokesman said.

All appointments will be for a period of two years except for Hon. Ng Leung-sing, Ms Siu Yuen-sheung, Mr Lau Kwok-yu and Mr Ng Shui-lai, whose appointments will be effective for one year to tie in with the expiry date of their appointment as HA member.

Brief biographies of New Committee Members:

Mr Alex Choy Kan-pui, JP

(HA Member, also Member of Home Ownership Committee)

Mr Choy is a businessman. He is the chairman of Shatin Provisional District Board. He is a member of the Estate Agents Bill 1995 Independent Appeal Panel.

Hon. Ho Sai-chu, JP

(HA Member, also Member of Rental Housing Committee)

Mr Ho is the director of a construction company. He is a Legislative Councillor. He is also a representative of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce on Labour Advisory Board.

Mr Ip Kwok-him

(HA Member, also Member of Building Committee)

Mr Ip is a teacher. He is a member of Central & Western Provisional District Board.

Mr George Ng Sze-fuk, BBS, JP

(HA Member, also Member of Rental Housing Committee)

Mr Ng is the managing director of a trading firm. He is the chairman of Sai Kung Provisional District Board and a member of the Appeal Board Panel (Town Planning), Authorised Person Registration Committee Panel and the Country & Marine Parks Board.

Ms Anna Kwong Sum-yee

(Building Committee)

Ms Kwong is an architect. She is the administrator of Diocesan Building and Development Commission, Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.

Mrs Pamela Chan Wong Shui, BBS, JP

(Commercial Properties Committee)

Mrs Chan is the chief executive of the Consumer Council. She is a member of the Estate Agents Authority, Environment Campaign Committee and Appeal Board Panel (Town Planning).

Mr Peter Lee Hoo-tim

(Commercial Properties Committee)

Mr Lee is the chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle.

Mr Liu Sing-cheong

(Commercial Properties Committee)

Mr Liu is an estate surveyor. He is the proprietor of his own practice. He is a member of the Sub-Committee on Description of Flats on Sale of The Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong.

Mrs Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee

(Finance Committee)

Mrs Mak is the head of Information Technology Department of British American Tobacco China Ltd. She is a member of the Committee on Information Technology Training of the Vocational Training Council and the Finance Sub-committee of the Hong Kong Housing Society.

Mrs Kwong Li Kwai-fong

(Home Ownership Committee)

Mrs Kwong is a housewife and a flat owner of the Tenants Purchase Scheme. She is a member of the Owners' Corporation of Wan Tau Tong Estate.

Miss Wong Lai-chun

(Home Ownership Committee)

Miss Wong is the Director (Estate Management) of the Hong Kong Housing Society.

Ms Ko Po-ling

(Rental Housing Committee)

Ms Ko is a member of the Kwun Tong Provisional District Board.
