Spring Winds -- An Evening of Chamber Music *******************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council:

Presented by the Provisional Regional Council (Pro RC), "An Evening of Chamber Music by I Fiati Dolci and Guest Artist Nancy Loo" will be staged at the Cultural Activities Hall of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on March 28, 1999.

This exquisite concert will be performed by Donna Orbovich (flute), Rhondda May (Oboe), Seunghee Lee (Clarinet), Jeremy Hulbert and Sarah Andrew (Bassoons), Joe Kirtley (horn) and Nancy Loo (piano).

Programmes of the concert will include Quintet for Winds, Op. 43 (1922), Sextet for Winds and Piano (1929), Die Fledermaus Overture, Chinese Folksongs, Bagatelles for Wind Quintet (1953) and Three "Rags" (The Easy Winners, Solace and Maple Leaf).

I Fiati Dolci was formed by former members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994. True to the name, the Sweet Winds, I Fiati Dolci have presented mostly wind music in Hong Kong venues as diverse as the Fringe Club, St John's Cathedral , City Hall Concert Hall and the University of Science and Technology. Their repertoire ranges from J.S. Bach to Elliott Carter, and their sizes ranges from one to ten, enabling them to bring a menu of different and exciting music to the Hong Kong audience.

The famous pianist Nancy Loo started learning piano at the age of five with Betty Drown. After winning numerous first prizes in competitions in Hong Kong, she was awarded a scholarship to the Julliard School in New York where she studied with Adele Marcus. After she graduated there with a master degree, she studied with Vlado Periemuter in Paris and Guido Agosti in Italy. She won the first prize at the fourth "Rina Sala Gallo" International Competition in Monza in 1976 and also awarded in the "Marguerite Long" International Competition in Paris, the "Viotti", "Pozzoli" and "Senigallia" International Competitions in Italy.

Ms Loo has been active as a performer and has give recitals and appeared with orchestras in Europe, North America and the Far East. In 1978, she was selected as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" in Hong Kong. Since 1985, she has been teaching at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tickets priced at $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available to senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities holding a concessionary card, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Recipients. Concessions for the latter two are available on a first-come-first-served-basis. Half-price ticket holders must produce evidence of their identity or age upon admission. Friends of Pro RC Town Halls can enjoy a 15 per cent discount upon presentation of discount coupons.
