CE congratulates HKSAR Team

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, is pleased to learn today (Saturday) of the remarkable achievement by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Team in the Seventh Far East and South Pacific Region Games for the Disabled which was concluded in Bangkok last evening.

Hong Kong athletes had won a total of 29 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze medals in a variety of events, ranging from athletics, swimming, fencing, archery, shooting, powerlifting, judo to ball games including table-tennis, boccia and badminton.

New world records were set in three events --- men's 400 metre (cerebral palsy 6) and men's long jump (cerebral palsy 6) by Mr So Wa-wai, and men's 100 metre (mentally handicapped) by Mr Chan Fu-sang.

Mr Tung said, "The whole community is very proud of the outstanding performance of our athletes. We are particularly heartened by the courage and perseverance they demonstrated in overcoming the many hurdles during training to achieve the success they truly deserve today."
