The following is issued on behalf of the Chief Justice, the Honourable Mr Justice Andrew Li, today (Wednesday):

"Ms Alice Tai has served with distinction as Judiciary Administrator since 1994. She has made substantial contribution to the Judiciary's administration.

"Her appointment as Ombudsman followed an open competitive recruitment exercise with her emerging as the best candidate. I have every confidence that she will make an effective Ombudsman for the community. She will bring to that important office the qualities of independence, integrity and competence, qualities which enabled her to perform so effectively as Judiciary Administrator. She will be missed by the Judiciary. On behalf of the Judiciary, I wish her all the very best in her new position.

"The Judiciary will now proceed to recruit a new Judiciary Administrator as soon as possible."
