The Hong Kong Community Charter on AIDS

Seven persons from various professions and trades today (Tuesday) signed up as the first Charter Ambassadors of the Hong Kong Community Charter on AIDS.

The seven ambassadors who became missionaries in the fight against the spread of AIDS, are

Dr Thomas Ip Chairman of the Outstanding

Young Persons Association

Mr Carl Leung Contractor in the building

Mr Patrick Cheng Member of the legal profession

Mr Ko Tin-lung Artistic Director of theatre

Mr Wong Man-tat Chairman of the Bowrington Road

Market Traders Fraternal

Ms Che Kuk-hung Gold Medalist of the 1986 Asian

Games Bowling Competition

Miss Anny Ng Bank account service officer

Founded by the Department of Health and the Lions Clubs International, District 303 -- Hong Kong and Macau, the Charter Signatory and Ambassador Scheme is aimed at enhancing AIDS awareness and at encouraging the adoption of non-discriminatory policy in the workplace.

There are 79 organisations which have signed up as Charter Signatories.

The Chairman of the Executive Board of the Hong Kong Community Charter on AIDS, Ms Carlye Tsui appealed to the potential signatories and ambassadors to commit to the three values of "leadership", "partnership" and "community support".

She thanked the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa for his consent to be the Patron of the Charter.

The Chairman of the Department of Community Family Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor S H Lee; the District Governor of the Lions Clubs International District 303 - Hong Kong & Macau, Ms Judy Sin; the Director of Health, Dr Margaret Chan; and the Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission, Dr Fanny Cheung Mui-ching have agreed to be the honourary advisers to the Charter.
