The Government gazetted today (Friday) the appointment of one new member and the re-appointment of four incumbent members to the Social Welfare Advisory Committee (SWAC) for two years with effect from December 1, 1998.
The four incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Dr Ng Yau-yung, Miss Elle Shum Mun-ling, Miss Deborah Wan Lai-yau, and Mr Stephen Yau How-boa. They have, during their term of office, made valuable contributions to the work of SWAC whose functions are to keep social welfare services under continuous review and to advise the Government on all policy issues relating to welfare development.
The newly appointed member is Ms Katherine Lo Kit-yee. A lawyer by profession, Ms Lo is currently serving on the Solicitor Disciplinary Tribunal Panel as well as the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards.
The Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Katherine Fok, thanked all members for their valuable support and contribution over the years. She also welcomed the appointment of Ms Lo to the Committee and looked forward to her contribution to the development of welfare services in Hong Kong.
