Golden Oldies to Celebrate RegCo '98

The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council:

Tsai Chin, a prominent singer from Taiwan popular for nostalgic Mandarin golden oldies, will touch you softly with her astonishing performance in this December.

In the meet-the-press session today (Friday), Tsai and Hong Kong's top bassist and record producer Tony Kiang announced details of the " In Remembrance of Love - Concerts by Tsai Chin". It will be held at 8 pm at the Council's town halls and civic centre in Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin, Tai Po, Yuen Long and the North District between December 18 and 27.

Presented by the Provisional Regional Council as one of the highlights of the Regional Council Festival (RegCo '98), the concerts will feature many Mandarin golden oldies which have been rearranged with modern studio technique.

Any patron who purchases two tickets at a time at the box offices of the performance venues can obtain a poster with Tsai Chin's autograph. A total of three hundred copies of posters are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

In accordance with the RegCo '98's slogan "All for Festival; Festival for All", the Council will also bring you many fascinating cultural presentations, some of which are commissioned by the Council specially for the Festival.

The Kirov Ballet, signifying the Russian ballet school's tradition of excellence for over 200 years in its elegant, graceful and theatrical performance, will deliver its debut in Hong Kong. The Ballet's Swan Lake maintains the original style and spirit of classical ballet of the 19th century, and demonstrates the supreme standard of the principal dancers.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, under its Music Director Marek Janowski, will treat two concerts with French and German style of music to Hong Kong audience. The first programme will open with the premiere of "Dreams Afar", a new work by Hong Kong composer Victor Chan, commissioned by the Council for the Festival. Other repertoires include "Third Symphony of Saint-Saens", Beethoven's "Emperor" Piano Concerto and the "Symphonie Fantastique of Berlioz".

Other programmes include "Aladdin" by Chung Ying Theatre Company, concert by Chinese Musicians' Association Folk Songs Ensemble, concert by Russian State Chorus, interactive musical in Cantonese "Mali Mali Hung", Chinese acrobatics show by Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe and large-scale Cantonese opera "The Grand Birthday Greetings at the Perfumed Flowers Mountain".
