CE arrives in Beijing

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, arrived in Beijing tonight (Thursday) for his annual duty visit.

Mr Tung will first meet Vice Premier Qian Qichen at the State Council in Zhongnanhai tomorrow (Friday) morning. He will report developments in Hong Kong to Premier Zhu Rongji at the Great Hall of the People and President Jiang Zemin at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse respectively tomorrow afternoon and on Saturday morning.

In his meetings with President Jiang and Premier Zhu, Mr Tung will report on major political developments, various economic challenges as well as livelihood issues in Hong Kong since his last duty visit in December 1997.

"Having just delivered my second Policy Address, I believe this is an opportune time to come to Beijing for my annual duty visit," Mr Tung said.

Apart from official activities, Mr Tung will take the opportunity to tour the campus of Beijing University tomorrow.
