CE to present 1998 Policy Address & hold press conference

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, will present his 1998 Policy Address on Wednesday (October 7).

He will begin his address at 2.30 pm. The proceedings will be broadcast live on five television channels, as well as Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) channels 1, 3 and 5 and Commercial Radio (CR) - AM864. RTHK will also broadcast live both the video and audio version of the Policy Address on the Internet at http://www.rthk.org.hk.

Mr Tung will give a press conference immediately after the delivery. The proceedings will be broadcast live on TVB-Jade and Pearl, ATV-Home, Wharf Cable (News 1) and RTHK channels 1 and 3.

The radio and TV stations will carry a five-minute message by the Chief Executive on his Policy Address the same evening. The message will be broadcast by Wharf Cable (News 2) at 6.23 pm, ATV-World at 6.55 pm and TVB-Pearl at 7.15 pm on October 7 , TVB-Jade at 1.30 am on October 8, Metro-Hit Radio and FM Select at 5.05 pm, Metro Plus at 5.10 pm, RTHK-1 at 5.35 pm, CR-2 at 6.05 pm, CR-1 at 6.25 pm, RTHK-2 and RTHK-3 at 7 pm on October 7.

Mr Tung will take part in a live panel discussion between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm which will be broadcast by TVB-Jade, ATV-Home, Wharf Cable (News 1) and RTHK-5.

Copies of the Chief Executive's speech in English and Chinese will be available to members of the public from 5 pm that day at all District Offices; the Government Publications Centre, ground floor, Low Block, Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway; and the Marketing Office of the Information Services Department on the 17th floor, Siu On Centre, 188 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai.

A leaflet containing the main points of the Policy Address will also be available from 5 pm at eight Mass Transit Railway Stations, three Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation stations, District Offices, Housing Authority shopping centres, the Government Publications Centre and the Marketing Office of the Information Services Department.

On Thursday (October 8), the Chief Executive will take questions from callers phoning in RTHK-1 and RTHK-5's "Talkabout", RTHK-3's "Hong Kong Today" programmes and RTHK Putonghua channel from 7.45 am. Phone-in numbers are 1872 311 for the Chinese language and 2338 8266 for the English language. RTHK will also broadcast live the production on the Internet.

In the afternoon, Mr Tung will brief the Legislative Council on the Policy Address and answer questions from members. The proceedings will be broadcast live by Wharf Cable (News 1) and RTHK-1 and RTHK-3.
