The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, is looking forward to a tightly packed programme to present his 1998 Policy Address to the general public, a spokesman for the Chief Executive's Office said today (Monday).

The Chief Executive will begin delivering the Policy Address to the Legislative Council at 2.30 pm on Wednesday (October 7). Immediately after the delivery, he will give a press conference to the local and overseas media, to be followed by a briefing for editors of the local media.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) Mr Tung will record a short message on his Policy Address for broadcast on all electronic media on the evening of Wednesday. The message aims to give the audience a gist of the Address.

On Wednesday evening Mr Tung will attend a television panel discussion jointly organised by TVB, ATV and Cable TV. The one-hour programme will be broadcast live from 8.30 pm.

To exchange views direct with members of the public on the Policy Address, the Chief Executive will attend phone-in programmes on RTHK on the morning of Thursday (October 8). The programmes will be broadcast live simultaneously on RTHK Channels 1, 3 and 5 in Cantonese, English and Putonghua.

"The Chief Executive has been listening to views from all walks of life in preparing the Policy Address," the spokesman said. "He would like to continue this exercise in the radio studio and share his views with the audience."

On the afternoon of Thursday, Mr Tung will deliver a keynote speech in English at a luncheon meeting jointly organised by the chambers of commerce at the Island Shangri-la Hotel.

After the luncheon meeting, Mr Tung will brief the Legislative Council on the Policy Address and take questions from members.

The spokesman said that the Chief Executive was looking forward to share his vision with the public through these engagements with the media, the TV and radio audience, the chambers of commerce and the legislators.

Details of live broadcast of these activities by the electronic media and on the Internet will be announced separately once the details are finalised with individual media organisations.
