Improved court supporting services

**********************************

The following supersedes SER980914012 issued at 5.15 pm today (Monday). Please note that the date mentioned in the first paragraph should read September 16 (Wednesday) instead of September 18 (Wednesday). The revised press release is as follows: -

"The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

Members of the public can obtain general information on the District Court, Small Claims Tribunal and Labour Tribunal through the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System starting from September 16 (Wednesday).

"It has always been one of the Judiciary's objectives to upgrade our services to support the operation of courts.

"By adopting the IVR system, court users and members of the public can gain easy access to court information," a spokesman for the Judiciary said.

The system, which costs about $400,000 each, operates in Chinese, English and Putonghua round-the-clock.

The telephone numbers of the IVR system are as follows:

District Court 2845 5696

Small Claims Tribunal 2877 4068

Labour Tribunal 2625 0020

"This is the second group of courts which has such devices installed.

"The Family Court and Probate Registry are the forerunners introducing similar enquiry system some four years ago," the spokesman said.

"In addition to general enquiries, court users can also make use of the IVR system of the District Court and Small Claims Tribunal to check the hearing details, including dates, time and court numbers, of their cases.

"It is expected that similar system will be installed in the Lands Tribunal and Bailiff's Office in the near future," he added.
