The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, exchanged views with a group of Japanese business leaders at a luncheon meeting of the Century 21 Club today (Tuesday).

Formerly known as the 97 Japanese Business Committee, the Century 21 Club has members coming from the top management of Japanese companies which have set up headquarters in Hong Kong as well as those which have invested substantially in the SAR.

The Chief Executive discussed with members of the Club the speedy economic adjustment that the SAR was undergoing and the importance of a stable interest rate environment for the economy to recover.

Mr Tung said that Hong Kong remained a vibrant international city which welcomed people of all nationalities.

"We are a place of rule of law and everybody knows exactly where they stand," he added. "This is important for the business community."

"I believe that the Japanese community will continue to participate in the many infrastructure projects that are scheduled for commencement soon," he said.

The Chief Executive was pleased to note that one of the Club's objectives was to promote a better understanding of Hong Kong and the Mainland amongst the local Japanese community.
