1998 Honours List ***************** The 1998 Honours List will be published in the Government Gazette today(Wednesday). This is the first full Honours List since the reunification. Mr LO Hong-sui, Vincent ----------------------- Mr Lo is awarded the GBS for his public and community service and for his significant contribution to the preparatory work for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Miss TAM Wai-chu, Maria ----------------------- Miss Tam is awarded the GBS for her public and community service and for her significant contribution to the preparatory work for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Medal for Bravery (Gold) (MBG) (2 names) ---------------------------------------- Mr LEE Ying-kwong (deceased) ---------------------------- Mr Lee is awarded the MBG posthumously in recognition of his bravery and self sacrifice in helping others. On June 9, 1998, despite extreme danger to himself, he went down into a flooded nullah in Quarry Bay to save two boys. After saving one boy, he went back the second time to save the other boy. He was swept away by the raging flood while trying to reach the second boy and was drowned. Mr Thomas Frederick Crosier LARMOUR (deceased) ---------------------------------------------- Mr Larmour is awarded the MBG posthumously in recognition of his bravery and self sacrifice in helping others. On August 2, 1997, Typhoon Victor passed directly through Hong Kong and the No. 9 Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal was hoisted. Despite extreme danger to himself, he attempted to warn two young men sitting on the steps on the sea wall in Stanley and to assist them when they were swept into the sea. He himself was swept into the sea by big waves and was drowned. Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) (18 names) ------------------------------------- Dr David FANG ------------- Dr Fang is awarded the SBS for his significant contribution to the development of medical services, continuing medical education and the medical profession in Hong Kong. Mr LEE Cho-jat -------------- Mr Lee is awarded the SBS for his distinguished public service and for his contribution to the preparatory work for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Mr LI Shu-fai ------------- Mr Li is awarded the SBS for his distinguished and dedicated service in the Customs and Excise Department. He will retire (as Commissioner of Customs and Excise) by the end of 1998 after serving 34 years with the Government. Mr Joseph KOO ------------- Mr Koo is awarded the BBS for his significant contribution to the development of the local popular music industry and for his personal achievement in popular music. Medal for Bravery (Bronze) (MBB) (4 names) ------------------------------------------ Mr HO Fung-cheung ----------------- Mr Ho is awarded the MBB in recognition of his bravery in saving a fisherman during a search and rescue operation some 65 miles south of Hong Kong on April 19, 1998. Mr Ho had shown exemplary courage in the operation despite the danger to himself. Mr SUM Kwong-ho --------------- Mr Shum is awarded the MBB in recognition of his bravery in saving the life of a 65-year-old man who attempted to commit suicide on June 10, 1998 by jumping into the sea. Mr Shum had shown exemplary courage by going into the sea despite the danger to himself. Capt Trevor Keith MARSHALL -------------------------- Capt Marshall is awarded the MBB in recognition of his bravery in a rescue operation in the floods in the New Territories on May 24, 1998.
