Health chief to attend World AIDS Conference

The Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Katherine Fok, has departed for London and Geneva for overseas visits.

During the first part of her programme, Mrs Fok will visit welfare organisations in London.

She will subsequently fly to Geneva to attend the 12th World AIDS Conference.

This year's Conference, which is held biennially, will address the theme of "Bridging the Gap" which attempts to bridge the gap between science and community.

During the Conference, Mrs Fok will deliver a speech at a Workshop on Strategies on HIV/AIDS organised by the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation on "Prevention and Intervention in Chinese Communities".

She will be accompanied by the Director of Health, Dr Margaret Chan, the Principal Assistant Secretary for Health and Welfare, Miss Eliza Yau, and the Consultant (Special Preventive Programme) of the Department of Health, Dr Lee Shui-shan.

Mrs Fok will return to Hong Kong on July 2.
