The Government gazetted today (Friday) the appointment of three new members and re-appointment of three incumbent members to the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation (CLEIC) Boards for a period of two years with effect from June 19 1998.

The three incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Mr Lam Kin-pui, Mr Wong Chi-keung, Johnny, and Mr Wong Chun, Justein. They have all made valuable contributions to the CLEIC Boards.

The three new appointed members are Mr Chan Yau-yue, Mrs Lee Kan Oi-ha, Gertrude Judy, and Mr Wong Sui-kwong, Luke.

Mr Chan Yau-yue is actively involved in district affairs. He has been a member of the Southern District Board since 1985, and has served on a number of district-based committees as well as the Hospital Governing Committee of the Cheshire Home.

Mrs Lee Kan Oi-ha, Gertrude Judy, is a social worker by profession and has served in the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong prior to retirement. Mrs Lee has also served as an adjudicator in the Immigration Tribunal and the Registration of Persons Tribunal.

Mr Wong Sui-kwong, Luke, is the Director of Student Affairs in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and also a Council Member of the Hong Kong Red Cross.

Welcoming the appointments, a spokesman for the Health and Welfare Bureau said the new appointed members had broad experience in various disciplines which will contribute to the deliberations of the Boards.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board and the Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Board are responsible for administering the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Scheme.

The aim of the Scheme is to provide cash assistance to those victims suffering injuries, or to their dependants in cases of death, arising from a criminal offence involving the use of violence or the action of law enforcement officers using a weapon in the execution of their duty. The Scheme is non-means tested.
