The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, visited the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) this (Tuesday) morning to see for himself the actual operation of the centre.

The EMSC was activated this morning when the black rainstorm warning had been hoisted.

Officials who accompanied him were Secretary for Security, Mr Peter Lai, and Deputy Secretary for Security, Ms Chang King-yiu and Government Security Officer, Mr John Ng.

Mr Lai briefed the Chief Executive on the working procedures of EMSC, whose functions are to monitor and support the work of the emergency services and supporting agencies in the event of an emergency. Mr Tung praised civil servants in the centre and in various departments for working exceedingly hard in providing an effective and efficient service to the community.
