The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, has appointed 16 members of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) for a period of two years with effect from May 20, 1998, a Government spokesman announced today (Friday).
Established in 1996, the EOC is responsible for implementing the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, the Disability Discrimination Ordinance and the Family Status Discrimination Ordinance, and promoting equal opportunities regardless of gender, disability and family status.
"The 16 appointees represent a wide cross section of community interests. Their expertise would ensure that the EOC could continue to build upon the solid foundation in the promotion of equal opportunities for all, irrespective of gender, disability and family status," the spokesman said.
