Anti-rodent Campaign 2008 Prevent Disease Eliminate Rodent Nuisance
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) is organizing an Anti-rodent Campaign 2008 in collaboration with other Government Departments under the theme 'Prevent Disease Eliminate Rodent Nuisance'. The Campaign is implemented in 2 phases. The promotion phase was conducted from 7 January 2008 to 1 February 2008. In the light of recent public concerns on rodent infestation, the enhancement phase originally scheduled for July 2008 has been advanced to May 2008 and the period has been extended from the original 4 weeks to over 12 weeks. The enhancement phase will be conducted from 13 May 2008 to 8 August 2008. The target biotopes will be extended to cover -
i)
markets / market buildings and their surroundings;
ii)
fixed pitch hawker stalls / hawker bazaars and their surroundings;
iii)
licensed food premises and associated rear lanes; and
iv)
cargo handling areas and their surroundings.
In addition, rodent problematic spots identified by district pest control staff of FEHD will also be attended to. FEHD and other relevant Government departments will carry out a series of rodent elimination operations at districts.
Main Objectives of Enhancement Phase
To arouse public awareness on the significance of rodent control and prevention in the community;
To reduce rodent population in the territory particularly in markets and hawker bazaars/fixed pitches managed by FEHD, food premises, lanes close to food premises, public cargo handling areas and other problematic spots susceptible to persistent rodent problems; and
To promote the participation of management of other markets (such as Housing Department and building management companies), food premises and public cargo handling areas in the rodent prevention and control work on their premises.
