Public electricity generation is the major source of NOx emissions. It contributed to 44% of the total emission in 2006. Since the implementation of low NOx burner programme at coal-fired power generating units in 1993, the emission had reduced drastically. The increase in 2003 and 2004 was due to the increased power generation from coal-fired units. After imposing emission caps to the power companies in 2005, the emissions in 2006 have decreased by 10%.
