Voluntary Agreement on Management of Mooncake PackagingVoluntary Agreement on Management of Mooncake Packaging
EPD signed a voluntary agreement with 5 major mooncake manufacturers at the launching ceremony of a recycling campaign for mooncake containers held on 13 September, 2008.  Under the agreement, the manufacturers have committed to reducing the use of packaging materials and support to the recovery of packaging waste for recycling.

Amended Fuel Restriction Regulation to Cut Sulphur Dioxide EmissionsAmended Fuel Restriction Regulation to Cut Sulphur Dioxide Emissions
The Air Pollution Control (Fuel Restriction) (Amendment) Regulation will become effective on 1 October 2008. Diesel fuel users in industrial and commercial sectors will then have to switch to using ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD) with a sulphur content of not more than 0.005% by weight. 4R (Responsibility, Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle) principles4R (Responsibility, Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle) principles
The Product Eco-responsibility Ordinance (Cap. 603) provides the legislative framework for the implementation of producer responsibility schemes (PRSs). The environmental levy on plastic shopping bags will be the first PRS under the Ordinance. Everybody in the community, including consumers and manufacturers, is urged to take responsibility for reducing waste and recovering used products for recycling.

First carbon audit guidelines launchedFirst carbon audit guidelines launched
The first Carbon Audit Guidelines for conducting carbon audits on buildings in Hong Kong were officially launched today (July 24). The users and managers of buildings could calculate the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted from building operations and to explore room for further emission reduction. A thematic Clinical Waste Website is now available. It provides a succinct information platform for clinical waste producers and waste collectors to learn about the definition of clinical waste, the management of clinical waste, application for disposal permit, and relevant legislative control. It is suitable for managers, supervisory staff and frontline operatives.

Tax Incentives for Environment-friendly Commercial VehiclesTax Incentives for Environment-friendly Commercial Vehicles
To encourage the use of environment-friendly commercial vehicles with low emissions, reduction in the First Registration Tax (FRT) will be offered to buyers of newly registered environment-friendly commercial vehicles from 1 April 2008. Please see the Tax Concession Scheme for details.

Source Separation of Waste ¡V Model Family Competition 2008Source Separation of Waste - Model Family Competition 2008
EPD is collaborating with Take me Home in organizing the "Source Separation of Waste (SSW) - Model Family Competition 2008" in October 2008. The competition aims to encourage families in Hong Kong to share their practices and experiences in implementing waste reduction and source separation at home through submission of a short article and photos. On-site assessment will be conducted to select the SSW model families. Please find out the competition details and application (in Chinese version only) here.

Disney's Environmentality Challenge 2008/09Disney's Environmentality Challenge 2008/09
The Disney's Environmentality Challenge jointly organized by the EPD and the Hong Kong Disneyland will be launched in October 2008. The themes for this year are "Save Energy", "Save Water", "Clean Air" and "Waste Reduction - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Replace". We invite environmental teachers and students of Primary Schools and Lower Secondary Schools (Form 1 - Form 3) to participate in environment promotion activities including Environmentality Pledge and Class Project Competition.

Fluorescent Lamp Recycling ProgrammeFluorescent Lamp Recycling Programme
Fifteen leading suppliers in the lighting trade have joined hands to fund a territory-wide fluorescent lamp recycling programme. Regular collection service will be provided starting from April 2008 at over 400 public, subsidised and private housing estates. From 15 March onwards, a total of 52 public collection points will gradually be provided at the retails outlets of participating companies, designated shopping malls and houseware stores.

Computer Recycling ProgrammeComputer Recycling Programme
Twenty leading local and international brands in the computer trade have joined hands to fund a territory-wide computer recycling programme. Commencing on 25 February 2008, the public can bring their used computer equipment to fifteen public collection points, or over 600 collection points set up at the housing estates, commercial and industrial buildings according to a district collection schedule commencing in late March.

Environmental Resource CentresEnvironmental Exhibition and Resource Centre
The EPD's Environmental Resource Centres at Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan and Fanling, Kennedy Town Environmental Exhibition Corner, Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre as well as the Mobile Environmental Resource Centre provide easy access of environmental resources materials to the public.
