Background

The Department of Health set up the Elderly Health Services to commence a new mode of service delivery in July 1998. Eighteen elderly health centres and 18 visiting health teams were established in phases in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000, one in each district, to enhance primary health care for the elderly, improve their self-care ability, encourage healthy living and strengthen family support so as to minimize illness and disability.
