Measurement of ICT development under the 2008 Digital 21 Strategy
For the 2008 Digital 21 Strategy, we will measure Hong Kong's long-term ICT development over time with regard to a list of 21 indicators. The indicators are listed in Chapter Eight: Targets and Outcomes of the Strategy document, and selected common figures are tabulated as follows -

Annual Surveys on IT Usage and Penetration
The Census and Statistics Department conducts two annual surveys to gauge the penetration and usage of IT in the community. The Household Survey focuses on IT penetration amongst households and IT usage amongst household members, and the Establishment Survey focuses on the patterns of IT usage and penetration amongst business establishments.
Types of information collected in the two annual surveys include penetration of personal computer (PC) and Internet, the utilization of PC, Internet service, electronic business services, electronic Government services and information on IT security. Other types of information covered include usage of digital certificate, webpage/website and e-commerce as well as budget for IT among businesses. The Census and Statistics Department also publishes a report entitled Hong Kong as an Information Society. The publication aims at presenting statistical data compiled from a variety of sources relevant to the development of the information society, ranging from the usage and penetration of information technology both in the business sector and in households, with particular emphasis on the adoption of such facilities in the government, to the developments in telecommunications services. Analyses on the demand for manpower in the field and developments of relevant educational programmes are also included. You may download these publications from the links the table below.
