A total of 113 cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections were reported to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) in the third quarter of 2011, bringing the cumulative total of reported HIV infections to 5,149 since 1984.
Reviewing the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) situation in Hong Kong at a press conference today (November 29), Consultant (Special Preventive Programme) of the CHP, Dr Wong Ka-hing, said that sexual transmission remained the major mode of HIV transmission in Hong Kong.
Upcoming event - ''Red Ribbon in Action'' AIDS Education Funding Scheme 2012 (Phase2) invites application 07/12/2012
The “Red Ribbon in Action” AIDS Education Funding Scheme aims at encouraging local community groups to organise and implement AIDS education programme by providing financial and technical support. In the process of planning and implementing the AIDS education programme, local community groups will have a chance to acquire knowledge about AIDS, sex and drug abuse; and to further promote related messages among peer groups.
Red Ribbon Centre is an AIDS education, resource and research centre established by the Department of Health. The mission of the Red Ribbon Centre is to facilitate and enhance the community's response to HIV/AIDS. The Red Ribbon Centre would like to invite local community groups, including seniors, women, youth groups, kaifong welfare association as well as those at work or at schools, to apply for the “Red Ribbon in Action” AIDS Education Funding Scheme.
Showcase for - ‘Youth and AIDS’ exhibition 05/07/2011
Young peoples play an important role in HIV prevention. A new set of exhibition boards especially designed for youth with attractive and bright colour illustrations are being displayed in exhibition hall of our centre since July 2011. The content of the exhibition boards are focused on HIV/AIDS knowledge, hotlines service and websites information. Young peoples are most welcomed to visit our centre with your friends and family members.

Dr CHEN Zhu, Minister of Health, headed a delegation to visit the Red Ribbon Centre on 8 June 2011. During the visit, Dr CHEN met with Dr Thomas TSANG (Acting Director of Health), Professor CHEN Char-nie (Chairman of Advisory Council on AIDS), Dr FAN Yun-sun, Susan (Convener of Community Forum on AIDS) and representatives of various AIDS NGOs. Local experience in uniting the government and the civil society for fighting AIDS was discussed extensively and commended by Dr CHEN.
What's New - In Recognition of Ms Miriam YEUNG's Great Contribution to HIV/AIDS Prevention 04/05/2011
Mr Mark Stirling, Country Coordinator, UNAIDS China and Dr KH Wong, Director, Red Ribbon Centre-UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support issued two appreciation letters to Ms Miriam Yeung in appreciation for her great contributions to HIV/AIDS prevention during her official appointment as UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador from 1999-2010. Ms Yeung was invited to attend a presentation ceremony at Red Ribbon Centre on 3 May 2011 during which she also shared her experience on HIV/AIDS prevention and education with the staff of Red Ribbon Centre.
