Red Ribbon Centre, Hong Kong, with the sponsorship of the Lions Clubs International Hong Kong and Macau District 303, has established the Lions Red Ribbon Fellowship Scheme with a view to support mainland professionals to further their professional development or research in Hong Kong on HIV/AIDS control.

"Lions Red Ribbon Fellowship Scheme 2010" invites for application. Deadline for applications is 15 April 2010.

HIV/AIDS situation in third quarter of 2009

A total of 123 cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections were reported in the third quarter of 2009 to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH), bringing the cumulative total of reported HIV infections to 4 372 since 1984.

Reviewing the AIDS situation in Hong Kong at a press conference today (December 1), Consultant (Special Preventive Programme) of CHP, Dr Wong Ka-hing said that sexual transmission had continued to be the major mode of HIV spread in Hong Kong.

Dr Wong stressed the importance of using condom and the practice of safer sex in reducing the risk of HIV infection.

World AIDS Campaign 2009-ˇ§Let's get touchedˇ¨ programme

Let's get all walks of life touched with issues about AIDS to help increase awareness and eradicate fear on AIDS and in turn make a step to show concern, support and acceptance to people living with AIDS. To achieve this, the Red Ribbon Centre is collaborating with the Commercial Radio to launch a comprehensive series of AIDS-related programmes. The programmes accommodate wide ranges of areas including knowledge sharing on AIDS, thematic interviews and radio drama featuring Miss Miriam Yeung Chin-wah, UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador for Hong Kong SAR China.
